This year, summer in Warsaw ended in a single weekend. Saturday 26 September brought the last fountain show at Podzamcze; Sunday 27 September the last Chopin concert in Łazienki and the last free kayaks on the Vistula. We wrote the first version of this list on 25 September. Three days later, half of it was out of date.

But not everything has closed. Below is what is left of summer, checked on 28 September on the organisers' own pages and ordered by when it ends. Every entry has a date. After that date this list starts lying, so don't leave it for later.

Until the end of October

The BUW roof garden

University of Warsaw Library, Dobra 56/66, Powiśle
roof garden until 31 October

Every day from 8:00 to 20:00, for free. The upper part of the garden, on the library roof, is open until the end of October. From November only the lower garden stays open, with shorter hours, from 8:00 to 15:00. A good place for a takeaway coffee and a talk before it gets properly cold.

A second roof garden, at Kopernik

Copernicus Science Centre, Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie 20, Powiśle
until 31 October

The science centre has a roof garden too, and it is free as well. Until the end of October it is open every day from 10:00 to 17:00; from November to April it is closed. In a storm or strong wind you cannot go up. Together with the BUW garden it makes a good afternoon in Powiśle.

"Lalka" Film Stills Exhibition in Łazienki

The outdoor gallery on Aleje Ujazdowskie, Łazienki Królewskie
exhibition until 31 October

The outdoor gallery shows stills from the set of the new film of "Lalka" (The Doll), directed by Maciej Kawalski. The film opened on 30 September, and the exhibition stays until the end of October, free. Łazienki park is open every day from 6:00 to 21:00, also free, so it fits into a walk. If someone in your group is still learning Polish, Kino Muranów is showing the new "Lalka" with English subtitles; see our rainy-evening guide.

In October the garden is open from 10:00 to 17:00, and the ticket office until 16:00. A ticket is 24 zł, reduced 12 zł, and on Mondays until the end of October everyone pays 12 zł (the greenhouses are closed that day). Until the end of October there is a photo exhibition about wild pollinators in the garden. From November only the greenhouses stay open.

And one thing for mushroom season: every Monday from 16:00 to 18:00, Professor Marta Wrzosek helps people identify the mushrooms they bring in. The advice is free, on the ground floor of the garden's Education building (ring 103 on the entry phone).

Still open, just shorter hours

The Royal Castle gardens

Zamek Królewski, Plac Zamkowy
from 1 October until 18:00

The Upper and Lower Castle Gardens are open all year, for free. From 1 October every day from 10:00 to 18:00. Damaged box hedges in the Upper Garden are being cleared, so some paths may be closed, and the gardens sometimes close in bad weather.

The terrace on St Anne's bell tower

A hundred and fifty stone steps and you are above Plac Zamkowy. The terrace is open all year. According to the parish's page, in October it closes earlier than in summer: at 18:00 on weekdays and 21:00 at weekends. The taraswidokowy.pl page, which the parish links to, still gives summer hours for October, so don't count on an evening visit. Tickets are 15 zł, reduced 10 zł, bought on the spot.

The Palace of Culture, but by day

By day the terrace 114 metres up is open all year, every day from 10:00 to 20:00. A ticket is 30 zł, reduced 25 zł. The Palace's page no longer lists evening visits.

Already closed for the season

So nobody makes the trip for nothing:

  • The kayaks, boats and gondola on Jezioro Wilanowskie ended their season on Sunday 4 October. In autumn the kayaks depend on the weather, so phone the landing before you go.
  • The last fountain show at Podzamcze was on Saturday 26 September.
  • The Chopin concerts in Łazienki closed their 67th season on Sunday 27 September.
  • The free kayaks on the Vistula ran for the last time on 26 and 27 September. They have run every summer since 2023; more in our small-group guide.
  • The city's last open-air screening, in Bielany, was scheduled for 28 September.
  • The three city ferries across the Vistula and the water tram stopped running on 20 September.
  • The outdoor pools at Moczydło and Inflancka were open until 6 September, and those at Powsin and Szczęśliwice until 31 August.

Most of this list ends on 31 October, so don't leave it for November.
