What to Do in Warsaw When It Rains

Twelve ideas for an autumn evening indoors, from a half-price museum to karaoke, pinball and stand-up in English.

In autumn it gets dark earlier every week, and the rain likes to start exactly when someone suggests a walk. Then the sofa usually wins. We collected places that are open in the evening, are indoors, and work for two to four people.

We checked each one on its own website on 28 September. Things from our first guide (climbing, ceramics at Alike, the sauna on the water, board games with cats, jazz at Jassmine) are not repeated here, but they work just as well in the rain.

Something to see

The National Museum on Friday after 17:00

Al. Jerozolimskie 3, Śródmieście

The entrance hall of the National Museum in Warsaw, 2017.

On Fridays the museum is open until 20:00, and from 17:00 every ticket is half price: the Adolph Menzel exhibition is 17.50 zł instead of 35, the permanent galleries 15 zł instead of 30. The Menzel exhibition runs until 13 December. Children, pupils and students up to 26 pay 1 zł, but only at the ticket desk. A good start to an evening in the centre, before someone suggests dinner.

When: Friday 10:00-20:00, ticket desk until 19:15.

Modern art after 18:00

Museum of Modern Art (MSN), Marszałkowska 103, Śródmieście

MSN gets cheaper in the evening: after 18:00 a ticket is 25 zł instead of 40, reduced 15 zł. Galeria A on the ground floor is always free, and the building has its own cinema, KINOMUZEUM, tickets 25 zł.

When: Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday 11:00-19:00, Friday until 20:00, Sunday until 18:00. Closed on 15 October.

Plan B

If none of this works out, there is always a food hall, where everyone picks something different and nobody has to agree on a cuisine. Hala Koszyki at Koszykowa 63 is open until 1:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. The food hall at Elektrownia Powiśle, Dobra 42, is open until 23:00 from Friday to Sunday, with a DJ at the Centrala bar on Fridays and Saturdays.

We found nothing checked on the Praga side of the river. If you have your own rainy-evening place there, write to us and we will add it.
